Travel & Lifestyle
“Not all those who wander are lost.” – J. R. R. Tolkien
Jean developed a love for travel photography while working on a book project in Southeast Asia that took her to Cambodia, Philippines, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Myanmar, Brunei, Malaysia and Indonesia over six months in late 2006. After graduating in July 2007, she headed to Europe on a two-month long graduation trip, came home to Singapore and decided to embark on her dream job as a freelance documentary and travel photographer.
She is thankful for the experiences accumulated through these travels and believes that conscientious research and sincere communication is what separates a traveller from a tourist. Working on documentary projects also helps to grant her deeper insights into a particular section of society, which inevitably heightens her travelling experience.
These interviews and photographs make up her history and memories. She hopes that they will help to inspire and motivate others to go out there and experience the world beyond theirs.
She is available for commercial and editorial travel assignments. Please get in touch.
Portraiture
Jean derives a satisfaction from portrait photography because of its ability to connect the subject and audience through the photographer’s eyes. She enjoys this form of direct engagement where she gets time and space to exchange ideas with people from all walks of life in a natural setting.
Jean has photographed people from all walks of life including children, families, soldiers, monks, scientists, artists, lawyers, celebrities and activists. She gets a kick out of challenging herself to express a subject’s character, history, influences and social significance in an image.
