News & Feature writing
Jean was trained in news and feature writing at the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information, where she graduated with a journalism degree (2nd upper).
As part of the school’s internship programme, she spent six months at The Sunday Times in 2006 where she got a taste of the local news scene and had a chance to hone her interview and writing skills. Working in a small team meant she had many opportunities to work on a variety of stories ranging from lifestyle features and breaking news. For excelling at the internship, Jean was awarded a Certificate of Commendation from the dean.
In May 2007, Jean scored a summer internship with Bloomberg News in Singapore. A highlight of the stint was the World Economic Forum (July 2007) where she interviewed bigwigs and competed with other newswires for exclusives. To top off a rewarding introduction into the world of financial journalism, Jean broke a story on Wal-Mart’s expansion plans in China that published on the International Herald Tribune on July 20.
Since 2007, Jean has been contributing features regularly to the Asian Geographic. Her work has also been published on the Straits Times, Asian Geographic PASSPORT travel magazine, Her World, Lexean, @NTU and travel magazines like Singapore Airlines’ Priority and Changi Class.
